New to the book club, but a voracious reader my whole life.

Has anyone here ever read this, by Gunther Grass?

It's probably my favorite novel of all time.

I highly recommend it, but it's not a casual read. I re-read it every 5 years or so and always find something new that speaks to me each time.

I have. I make it a point to read any books that have been banned.

Grass won many awards for this book and it was Germany's first 'literary effort' of anything positive after WWII.

Another book I re-read about every 5 years is 'The Good Earth' by Pearl S. Buck. Wonderful books like that don't come along often.

Are you aware that The Good Earth is part of a trilogy? I didn't learn that until 2019, and I probably read TGE in 1968. I recommend all 3.

The other 2 are Sons and A House Divided.
