The venom in a honey bee sting is quite different from that in wasps. So you may not react if you do get stung by a wasp.
I have reactions that are considered high but not anaphylactic, but I also have been stung a jillion times by both. Red wasps are just assholes. Hornets can make you feel like you have been hit by a bullet.
But make sure you keep your Epi up to date and benadryl and pepcid, yes plain old pepcid is a histamine blocker too and it actually helps me more than benadryl does for the honey bee stings.

Very surprised, when the Dr was calling out orders I couldn’t see but I heard pepcid, later I asked the nurse if I heard that correctly and yes it’s a histamine blocker. I thought it was to keep me from vomiting with a closed throat.

Thanks for all the all the advise and well wishes. I have my Epipen with me now, so if anyone is still reading this I’m wondering about wasps. I work with real estate, inspections specifically. I encounter wasps all the time.

If I get stung by anything do I use the pen immediately or only after I feel a reaction coming on? It’s not real clear on the instructions. It only says for allergic reactions which to me means if I react to a sting.

If you know that the response you had was due to a honey bee, and you then get stung by a wasp, I would encourage you stop what you are doing, go sit down, drink some cool water, and take a pepcid and benadryl and wait.
If you notice that it is worsening despite that, then yup hit yourself up.
If you still are freaking out, and having panic or fear go ahead and hit yourself up (to be on the safeside) but you will still get a systemic reaction, like swelling, heat, itching, if it stays less than 6 inches from the sting sight, then it's a normal reaction, and next time may not need it.

Lastly take that epi pen out of the box read the instructions, watch the video if they link one, so you know how to use it.

DO know that when you use the epi pen you will experience some heart racing, and fast breathing at first, it is epinephrine and will cause a systemic response, it may also make you feel really shakey.

Please see an allergist who can do testing to see if it was a bee allergy. In office with epi at the ready. Could have been something else, or maybe another bug??? I wouldn’t hang up the suit just yet, but ask a dr for their opinion.

No it was definitely a bee, I was preparing for an extraction and went up the ladder without my suit on to see what tools I need. He got me right between the eyes. I started itching within a couple minutes, enough time to load up and get towards the ER.

The one that kept me from working for 2 days and made my eyes swell shut was a honeybee smack dab center of my forehead between the eyebrows.

Told my W, heart and lungs, meh. But when the junk isn’t right "Call 911!!!’"🤣

If you get stung again, and you follow tushnurse's advice, and you find you still aren't getting better, do NOT drive yourself. Call an ambulance. I went into anaphylaxis. I passed out. My brother called an ambulance. When they got there, they were able to immediately start treating me. If I'd been driven to the ER, they would have been bringing in a corpse. Sometimes minutes can be the difference between life and death. So glad you were treated and ok afterwards.
Oh, and yes, our immune system deteriorates as we age. So it might just be you were eventually going to become allergic to bees, or your immune system is aging.

OMGosh... how scary. I rarely get stung - have been stung maybe a half dozen times in my life, but every time I do, I look out for an abnormal reaction in the first hour because I know that, even though I never reacted the previous times, I could always react now.
