You go to any specialty group online and they are full of dumb people or jerks, for example I’m totally fabricating this example but it’s very close to the truth:

Hi my name is Tanner and my widget The Comando 8 (Seinfeld reference) won’t turn on, it is plugged in, the fuse is good and it’s in the on position. I bought it a couple years ago and the warranty is expired.

I agree! I think it's a forum of smart people.

Totally agree.

Smart, reasonable, positive and kind.

The SI folks aren't opposed to handing out 2x4's when necessary, even if we may not be ready to hear it yet. The collective wisdom is beyond college degrees - even doctorates.

So very very true. Especially those on the RV Pages. I'm amazed how many people spend that amount of money and then don't educate themselves on how to properly care for it.
The same questions over and over.

I follow a few pugs groups and, oh my goodness.

Somebody posted a few weeks ago about their dog’s “unbiblical hernia”. I refrained from suggesting an exorcist.

Just last night somebody posted “somebody told me pugs can’t fly. But I know I’ve read about this before!!!!”

I replied, “Of course they can fly. They just have to pass their tes with Madam Hooch first.”

Yea well I’ll believe that when Pugs fly 🤣🤣

What prompted this post was there is a check valve on my RV, it keeps the fresh water from the city hook up from transferring to the fresh water tank and over filling it.

Hey Facebook RV group, my fresh water tank keeps over filling, I need to locate the check valve and replace it.

Anyway I figured it out on my own.

What I don't get is the large number of people who answer product questions on Amazon with, 'I don't know' - like when someone asks, 'Does this product do _____?'

Or the people who post questions in a bike forum to which the best answer is, 'Search the web!'

But then I've been known to respond to posts after missing crucial info ... um ... on SI.

Or the animal sites where somebody it's posting somebody come help this dog/cat. Ummm, you're there, you help. The volunteer rescues are overrun and behind capacity - you step up.

ETA: I can't have animals where I live, so I help a rescue.

Sometimes, yeah, it's a lousy answer, but sometimes 'search the web' is a good one, because I've seen a goodly number of questions that actually ask members of the forum to search the web on the questioner's behalf.

I usually have no problem with, 'I've searched, but I haven't found anything that's intelligible to me.'

Try asking for help on any reptile forum or group.

Example:
A person says their animal has suddenly stopped eating. Gives a detailed description of the habitat set up (temps, substrate, size, typical feeding schedule and food, lighting).

Replies usually go like:

What are the temps?
What does it usually eat?
What substrate are you using? OR a full on debate about substrate ensues...

How much UVA/UVB is it getting?

It's like people don't know how to read!

Then there are the jerks who say things like:

If you did your research properly before you bought the animal you'd know what the problem was.

Just take it to a vet (reptile vets are hard to come by, at least where I am).

Ugh!

I just helped out someone with a bearded dragon who stopped eating. I had seen the set up and gave some suggestions to improve it.
