Dog friends, I could really use some good thoughts or prayers for my little terrier mix.

He got sick with vomiting and diarrhea on Tuesday. Wednesday he continued plus was passing and vomiting blood. He was unable to hold anything down. Our vet had no coverage that day and no other vet would see us. We had to wait all day until 7pm for the emergency clinic to open.

They don't think he has a blockage. They think it is AHDS which means for some unknown reason is gi tract is inflamed. They gave him meds and fluids subcutaneous.

He ate A little bit last night but nothing since then and no water since very early this morning.

I am off to our regular vet with him shortly. I'm really worried about him and concerned about getting him proper care. My DD's dog that has cancer had to be taken two hours away for treatment. I'm tired, stressed and worried and would appreciate any thoughts or kind words.

Oh zebra, how horribly scary!

I am wondering if he got into anything poisonous. Being a terrier, did he stick his head down a mouse hole, or find bait? Found the other dog's chemo pills? I am pulling for your vet to give you some solid answers, ASAP! But that sounds too extreme to just be stress, don't you think? (Our Missy had diarhea for days after surgery and they said it was all due to stress.)

My sweet Hospice dog had an episode last summer (fourth of july weekend) when she too had vomiting, diarrhea, all with blood, and has kidney disease/failure. So we took her to a small town vet where we were camping. She was dehydrated, despite drinking water, and vet thought she had some pancreatitis secondary to whatever kicked off the GI upset. They gave her nausea meds, and antibiotics. Within 24 hours she was bouncing back. This is also when they found the softball sized tumor on her spleen.

So I'm sending you Lucy dog MoJo because this girl is still living her best life. Gut rest as far as food goes for 24 hours, but give her pediatlyte to keep her hydrated. And whatever meds the vet recommends.

We don't think he got into anything. He can't get to the trash in the house and our trash can outdoors is tightly closed and he can't get at it. We don't use mouse poison. I have walked the yard multiple times, nothing but dead grass and weeds. We go out with our dogs so they are always supervised so it is highly unlikely that he got something but not impossible.

They don't think there are any blockages or masses but I guess x-rays only show so much. His bloodwork was good except for indicating he was dehydrated. He got more fluids today and another injection to calm his stomach.

The Pedialyte was a great suggestion. I asked if there was anything I could do to encourage drinking such as watered down low fat broth added to his water. They told me not to try to force him to drink. If he won't drink to bring him back tomorrow for more fluids. I guess I should have asked why. Maybe his gut can't handle fluid if he isn't taking any so I shouldn't encourage it? I'm just so worried about him getting worse especially since we had to wait all day yesterday until he got treatment.

I can't imagine that he is stressed. He is almost never home alone, goes for daily walks, has a toy basket full of his favorite things and a brother he loves.

I'm glad Lucy is still her best life!!!

The vet gave him and injection of something to calm his stomach and help him eat and keep his meds down. He was able to eat two tiny meals last night and one this morning with no vomiting!!

He is still not drinking so I will probably have to bring him in for more fluids today.

He passed blood last night but hasn't since then so that has slowed down.

I am very cautiously optimistic that he may be just starting to turn a corner. Fingers and paws crossed!!! I can't help but wonder/worry what caused him to get so sick. I hope the diagnosis is correct.

Eh they get bugs just like we do.
As long as things are heading in the right direction, maybe try some popsicles, or broth over the food. The vet recommended making a slurry w/ my girl when she was sick, that way they get liquids with their food.

My girl gets homemade food, due to developing her allergies to corn, and chicken, and then her renal failure diagnosis, so when she has a pukey day, I add water to her rice/beef, grean beans, carrots, broccoli mixture.

I took him for fluids. They said I could put sodium free broth in his water and on his food. Hopefully that will help.

He has been such a trooper and is such a sweet boy. He is the easiest dog I have ever had.
