I did NOT think I was going to do this again but my H really wanted another BT after losing our little guy. He was very respectful of my grieving timeline and eventually I felt open to the idea and wanted to be fair to him. Our terrier mix seems to really perk up around other dogs so I took that into consideration.

My H was not having any luck finding a breeder within a days drive so we put off thinking about it until next year. Last week somebody contacted us about puppies. We met the family, the two parent dogs and puppies. I believe we get the dogs we are meant to have. Everything fell into place so we will be bringing a girl home in about five weeks.

I have only gotten rescues and one purebred from a top notch breeder. He was the one with the most health problems and died the youngest from something other than old age. This puppy is not from a breeder but the parents had good markings, had the personality traits of a BT and were very well cared for.

We did everything right with our last pup. He came from a breeder very well know in the BT world. She is quoted in books about the breed and other breeders know who she is. Despite that our boy had a luxating patella, hemivertebrae, seizures and died at the age of ten. He had beautiful, almost perfect markings and the personality expected from the breed but I had hoped he would not have so many health issues.

I'm hoping for the best with the puppy. She will be well cared for and loved!!!

Genetics are so weird. I have had mutts with health issues theor whole lives and have had pure breeds that were great and the exact opposite too.
I now get only dogs from breeders that have all the health checks and certs needed for both parents. This definitely minimizes the chances of bad things but anything can happen.
They just don't live nearly long enough. Just makes me love them more and make sure that everyday is a happy fun day for them.

We have two names we're considering but heavily leaning towards one.

It is certainly sometimes a crap shoot about health, but it is obvious that this pup has nothing to worry about in the "love department ". 😊

Zebra, late with the congratulations, but Good News you are getting a puppy! The midnight potty trips will eventually be a memory. Paws all crossed here for good health, and the right chew toys! (My GSD has destroyed or consumed a wide variety of toys and building materials, it's the biggest worry we have with him at age 14 months!)

How is your new puppy doing?

We didn't get her yet. She will be ready in about two weeks!!

Ohhhhh how long will those next 2 weeks seem....hope they send you baby pictures on the regular! Wouldn't it be great if breeders had litter cameras? I guess they wouldn't like that, but we'd love it!!

We have had our boy Mink for exactly one year as of Friday. I got choked up just realizing the date while we were at the vet, for him to get an allergy shot...not cheap when they have to have shots. The boy likes my shoulder strap mini purse which has my checkbook, and he'd enjoy eating it. I tell him he sorta already is eating through what's in it!!

Th3 breeder we used does have cameras and Posta videos regularly and once you pick your dog she sends personal videos too. She is amazing.

Those 2 weeks give you time to get used to the idea of getting up in the middle of the night fir potties. My second boy quickly slept through the night and potty trained so fast it was nuts. We did have some regression issues at about 9 months but quickly resolved them by not allowing him to be unsupervised and out of crate.

Can't wait to see the pics.

We are getting excited and hope the next two weeks pass quickly. They have sent pictures and a video. It's been four weeks since we picked her out and she has grown so much since then!!

I have been busy buying toys and supplies and also watching lots of training videos. This is not my first rodeo but you can always learn more and do better. I also know the breed so I know what's coming. Bosties are very smart but take a while to potty train. I'm really, really not looking forward to night time but that's part of the package. And yes, the vet bills during the first year are a lot.

I hope I'm ready!! I'm A little embarrassed to admit I still cry and mourn our boy we lost six months ago. I loved that dog so much. He was so sweet and quirky and fun. I miss him every single day.
