I swear....I can't take it.

This time non-fiction. Heard author (long-time journalist) during NPR interview. Fascinating subject. Sounded promising. Nothing like opening (and smelling) a new book.

Has to be one of the worst editing jobs I've seen in a long time. Horrible continuity. I can let some of that slide. Big stories are difficult to order sometimes.

But the proofreading mistakes? Yee gads.

My two favorites.

2108 for 2018 (twice)

and

As they headed back to the coast, Kevin, finally they would all be back together as a family.

I still wonder who Kevin might be. Is this a subliminal message to a mystery Kevin? No Kevin anywhere else in the book. Is there a coast somewhere named Kevin?

Sigh.

I'm one step away from calling up this publisher and asking if I can donate my time to be an Advanced Reader or something. Think they would be open? I'm actually kind of serious about this. Maybe I should quit complaining and do something...

Or maybe I'm a dinosaur and just need to get over it?

OK, how much would you charge for proofreading all of my posts so I don't make myself look dumber than I really am???

My schools weren't the best in traditional curricula BUT we did have some courses that other schools didn't have. Such as Advanced gang warfare, Breaking and entering 101 thru 106, ambush 101, Intimidation 101 thru 104. These were all mandatory study in Jr high and High school.

Oh yea I've had PTSD since I was 11.

Edit to add, this was an attempt at humor, not to sure if it's funny. Do you edit for bad humor also??

I think, in part, it is reaping the rewards of the dumbing down of the schools. Where anything goes. No correction of grammar or spelling or anything.

I am no great shakes speaking or writing grammatically, but some things are too much. My straw that breaks the camel's back is "I seen". "I seen you at the store yesterday" or I seen you take a cookie from the cookie jar". Missing the "have"; I have seen the movie or I've seen the movie already.

Ahhh, but what does grammar or spelling matter when everything is about texting using the least amount of letters possible. Such as ROTFLMAO!! BTDT!! IOW LOL!!

SS: KWYM. (I think that's one. Or maybe it's just KWIM. I'm illiterate in that realm for sure). Seen is popular in the city where I live and it makes my skin crawl.

candyman: your post made me laugh. I'm sure I deserve a hard time for my silly ranting, but I just needed to get it out somewhere and well, you know.

I edit for bad humor.... you should have placed ambushing 101 before your breaking and entering classes in your listing to keep it in alphabetical order.

I like posting those on the publisher’s social media....little push in oublic to getvtheircact together. My local newspaper is horrible at editing. Good content but man....scary.
