WFH is definitely not all it's cracked up to be. BH was in charge of getting kids in to school Tuesdays because I have a standing 7am meeting with my China team for the major project that basically justifies my existence at my job. DS is going in on 1st day back after being sick all weekend and is anxious about missed work, still tired from being sick and in general playing for sympathy by exaggerated fussing. RIGHT NEXT TO ME WHILE I AM TRYING TO TALK. I mute and tell him, "I understand you're anxious, it's hard going back after being sick. Right now, you need to talk to your dad about this as I am on a meeting and I need to talk."

DD is sweet, but squeezes the life out of me repeatedly while I'm trying to speak.

BH doesn't know where ANYTHING is, DS can't find socks, BH is yelling at EVERYONE because he's crabby and stressed and NEITHER of us set the alarm this morning. Dog woke us up. 5min before my meeting.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to have an intelligent conversation about a very complex technical project. With my boss, people in China and another co-worker.

At the end of the call I basically said, "welcome to my life!"

FML indeed.

This is not the 1st time, nor will it be the last... ARGH!!!

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to put the piglets bin in the bathroom...

While it's a safer place in case they jump out of their bin, having 4 little eye balls staring at you, grunting softly and twitching their little piggy noses while one is trying to have a crap is a bit unnerving...

Also, I think our runt goat is a dwarf pygmy.

Over a month old. No horns yet. Still insists on bottle feeding with milk, water yuck, will nibble on pellets but prefers to sneak paper from the ferrets cage to munch on and is still smaller than our cat!

Okay, I live in the country and I'm accustomed to wildlife. Mostly. We have had an exceptional cold winter so I've had to deal with a few field mice making their way inside. And I really hate mice! They are nasty. -So I bought glue traps and think I cleared them out. My house is fairly large and I don't use three of the bedrooms and keep the doors shut to conserve energy. But guess what comes with mich??!! SNAKES hunting the mice. I had been noticing what I considered 'mouse activity' in the kitchen cabinet by the sink. So I put a glue strip in there. Living in the country, everything is protected in my cabinets -- all flour, sugar, etc are in sealed canisters. Living in the country, sealed canisters are a MUST.

So I go into the kitchen to make some lunch. Still working from home. And what do I see hanging out of my cabinet ??!! The tail of a SNAKE. A damn snake in my kitchen cabinet. I screamed but no one here but me. My dogs were barking and I ran outside with the doggies. Ran back in to get my phone and the neighbor had heard me scream (5 acres away!) and came over quickly. He caught the snake! It's about 6 feet long and he took it off it the woods and let it go because he said it's a 'good snake' that eats bad snakes and mice. A big, fat, very long RAT SNAKE. I hope it doesn't find it's way back to MY house.

If I didn't know the arson laws so well, I just might set this house on fire. I am STILL shaking. I truly thought I was going to have a heart attack. I am only afraid of two things out here -- snakes and scorpions. Spiders do not scare me except I don't want them ON me.

Ya know in my house it's not uncommon to have the kids catch a snake and bring it inside to show me.

Have only ever saw a garter snake in the basement once because it got in through the open door to the garage.

Mice are common. Cat takes care of those.

We lived in a rental that was from the 1910s for a year or so while the house was being built.

Its walls were like swiss cheese and we had mice all over thr place. Covered plastic containers became our best friend for food storage. I considered getting a cat even though BH is allergic, it was that bad.

Still, despite its quirks, it was a fun and funky little house to live in.

Jeaniegirl, you need to find the hole in the exterior and attempt to seal it. The mice will make a new one eventually but it'll keep the snake out anyway.

I really feel this snake was in the house for a while. I had to have a new floor put in the utility room and for several days (during the summer), the floor was totally open while being replaced. A few days later I saw a big snake in my hallway and it took off back into the utility room. So I think this is the SAME snake that was caught yesterday. I shudder to think I've been living with a snake all this time! I know Rat snakes are harmless to people but they are SO ugly and scary looking.

My family has a log cabin in the woods about three hours away. We built it about 30 years ago. The second floor is open to the inner roof deck (8 foot walls inner roof deck is 8 to 15 feet above 2nd floor) and half the first is open to the second floor. There's bats around the cabin at night. They like picking off the bugs that are attracted to the spot lights on the driveway. A few years back while my sister's family and mom were staying there they were woken by a screaming bat... A snake had caught a bat inside the house and was proceeding to kill and eat it... It's a fun story to hear my sister tell. I think they ended up catching the snake, post dinner of course, in a bucket and taking it out of the house. Needless to say they spent the next day sealing every possible entry point they could find.

I'm used to a few mice in the winter time and have no problem catching them on large glue strips. I do not need a Rat Snake to help me kill them. I would rather have mice than a huge, ugly snake in the house! I'm having someone out next week to check for possible entry ways and then plug them if they find any. I once had a raccoon in the attic which created a lot of noise and fights as the barn cats would get up there through garage rafters -- and chase it at night. Some things, living in the country, one gets used to. But I will never get used to snakes, harmless or not. It's a good thing my Mom is no longer here, she would have tried to kill that snake. She hated snakes too. I don't try to kill them, I just RUN and let someone else relocate them. We do have very poisonous snakes in the area -- Rattlesnakes, Cottonmouth and Copperheads. All three can be fatal. Unfortunately for them, Rat snakes resemble Cottonmouth. I never stand still long enough to try to see the difference.

Grubs, something I see often that always amazes me -- Hawks and owls swooping down and grabbing snakes and flying off. It's easy to see the snakes trying to fight to get free but they never succeed. One thing I don't see out here is bats. When I was a kid we used to put rocks in panty hose and throw that up in the air and watch bats grab it. So far I haven't seen any bats out here 'in my zoo.'

My mothers parents lived on 5 acres. My grandfather who was retired would spend all day out in the "yard" mostly due to grandmother. He was like that with snakes. Didn't matter if it was a gardener snake or black snake. They were all evil in his mind. He used a shotgun or hoe to kill them. Or in the case where my grandmother stretched a dead one across the driveway, his car. Just Timber rattlesnakes, cottonmouth (though we call them water moccasin), and copper heads are the poisonous ones around here. I've never seen a timber rattler, and the only ones I've seen in the neighborhood are Gardner and black snakes. The one in the cabin was a black snake.

Venomous = snakes = injection.

Poisonous = drain cleaner= ingestion

In the abo r question Yes a hotdog is in fact a sandwich ad a sandwich is defined as any food served between two slices of bread OR in a sliced bun.

The difference between injection vs ingestion IS important. People assume a snake is poisonous and any contact will kill you. You need to be bitten and in the case of rear fanged snakes (hognose) they actually have to do a chewing motion to inject the venom.

Snakes, and other reptiles, get a bad rap for just being themselves. How many non venomous snakes are killed each year just from an ICK factor?
