I am fed up tripping over vacuum cords and long hoses. So, I’ve decided to blow the budget and get a Dyson V10 Animal Stick vacuum. But, before I do, I just thought I’d ask if anyone has used these before and if they have any recommendations…..or if they think it’s a bad idea.

My experience with stick-vacuums is that the battery seldom lasts more than 2 years. The third and possibly fourth year it’s maybe a 5-minute usage charge before I have to charge again. Fine for small jobs and emergencies, but a real pain if you want to really vacuum the whole house or a larger area. The cost of replacing the battery tends to be close to the price of a cheap stick-vacuum.
I still have a stick, but kept my old cord-monster for "real" jobs.

Agree with Bigger - I actually love my Dyson stick, but it's for quick jobs. It absolutely fascinates me how much stuff I can pick up - I can see it because the canister is clear. But if I want to do a really long, deep vacuum, I use my Miele canister. Actually, my housekeeper mostly uses the Miele, and I use the Dyson for in between visits from her. With just H and I, there are basically four rooms we use regularly - living room, dining room, kitchen and our master suite. So the Dyson can usually work long enough to do a quick cleanup of those areas. We have all hardwoods with five area rugs in various rooms. We have a dog that sheds a bit, so the Dyson is also good at quick clean ups where he tends to lay around and leave fur behind.

We've been at D's right now for three weeks and she, too, has a Dyson with all hardwoods and a few area rugs. Her battery seems to hold longer than ours. I think she got a grade above what we have.

Last fall, my Dyson was acting up - can't remember what, but I took it into a Dyson store. I was out of warranty by about two months, but they honored it anyway, and fixed it for free. I can deal with that kind of service!

I have 3 Dysons, obviously like them. A V6 Animal, a V8 and a V15. Just got the V15 and it lasts much longer than the V8 and is heavier. I have 2 summer only outbuildings, both LVP floors and about 340sq feet so perfect for those locations. House is mix of LVP and carpet, 2K square feet. My body can't handle vac'ing the whole house at once so limited battery time fine with me. So easy to mount inside a closet and have charging all the time.

Recently had a friend stay in guest building for a week and she LOVED using the Dyson, she has a stick vac (different brand) and much preferred the Dyson.

My first one, the V6, the battery did die at about 3 years, contacted Dyson and paid a good price for a replacement battery. Later - my fault - I left it in closed down building for the winter plugged in (would not have been a problem had I unplugged) and killed it. Bought a replacement from the huge company known for fast shipper at a far cheaper/reasonable price.

If/when I have to replace any battery again will get the cheaper non-Dyson version and not be upset as I cannot handle the cords and hoses and all else. Basically the price to pay for the convenience.

My big aggravation with the brand is the attachments are NOT interchangeable. The V6 animal came with lots of attachments (not needed in that space I moved it to) and they don't work with the others. Had the V8 mounted on a closet door in the house and the V15 didn't fit in it so had to move the whole assembly, not a biggie but a nuisance.

This was our experience also. I was about to toss it in the trash. I was able to buy a replacement battery kit on Amazon pretty cheap and YouTube the fix.

We love our Dyson.

I am right there with you regarding Dyson-love. My corded Dyson is so old but I am still considering repairing the worn parts versus replacing. It is probably 15 years old and still does a better job than some others I have bought.

I did deeply contemplate the Dyson Stick as an impulse buy recently at Lowes. I was strolling by and they were on clearance there! I ultimately did not buy...kept reminding myself I was there for a dehumidifier!

But I still suffer from non-buyers remorse.

I say buy one! But maybe you should not listen to me. I am just doing wishful shopping through your life experience!

Tip toeing in to say I love my Shark stick vac. I got one with a cord so I don't have to worry about battery problems. I don't mind the cord.

My DD has the very expensive Dyson stick and the head needed to be replaced right out of warranty and they also didn't have the right one available. The charge does not last long enough to do her whole house which is not large.

I'm a little envious that some of you have access to a Dyson store and can easily get a repair done. Nothing at all like that exists here in the middle of nowhere.

The Dyson has been very convenient and except for the battery replacement it has been very reliable and picks up very well.

It's a 2 to 3 room battery time tho so that's a nuisance. I have a V7 I think.

Now that I'm home from the other coast, I looked at my Dyson, and this is the model I have. We have it mounted in one of our guest bedroom closets.

We had a big insect of some kind fly into our bedroom tonight, and it was so convenient to grab the Dyson, detach the head, and just use the stick to vacuum up the insect, which had sort of attached to our wallpaper - this opposed to dragging out the corded vacuum and getting it that way.

BTW... I got mine at Costco.
