I’ve been at my place of employment for over 25 years and have every intention that it will be my last. I’ve been in my current job for about 12 of those years. It pays very well and I’m quite proficient at what I do. It does still bring me some satisfaction which is a blessing.

But I’ve found over the past few years that I’ve become quite tired of the bullshit. Not with the organization or my manager but with the grind itself. I’ve become more apathetic about things while at the same time becoming more irritated by the nonsense.

I only have 5-6 more years (hopefully) until I retire so changing jobs at this point isn’t really an option. If anyone has gone through something similar, can you recommend some decent coping strategies?

Sorry to hear this, but I do understand. (Although I tend to change employers every 5 years or so…. ). Maybe bump up your after work hobbies— something more organized and with specific time commitments to look forward to. (Join a league or take classes - this will give you specific things to look forward to). And be sure to have good boundaries on your work hours. And can you take on something new at work? Or mentor others?

Good luck and hang in there. Five years will fly by…

Sounds like you need a vacation.
Got some PTO that you can take?

I found when I was getting burned out and had PTO banked that taking one day every week or everyother week to do me stuff helped tremendously.
The other thing that helped was doing some fun stuff w/ the people I worked with.
I used to send out a Friday email to the entire team w/ Pics from SPF here, and other gems I picked up along the week, and then if it was some lame/inane holiday, like today being National Dog day I would challenge everyone to post a picture of their dog to the email chain.
Simple things like this often broke the grind.

Also make sure you are taking your breaks/lunches. Go outside walk around the building/parking lot, or even further if that's an option. Getting fresh air halfway through the day helps me keep sane.
