I got sick 10 days ago. Found out I had pneumonia in the bottom part of the lung - the lung that had top lobe removed due to cancer in 2021. It's been a tough time, having to use the nebulizer to breathe and coughing so much. I'm worn out. I started to get a little better a couple of days ago and now I have the flu. I've been having high fever at night, sweating it off and just being miserable with pain in all my bones. And the headaches are bad. When at the doc's office, I tested negative for flu and covid but I guess I caught the flu somehow now. I'm tired of being sick! Not only that, everyone around me is sick. My sister is at the doc's office today. My nephew and his daughter were diagnosed with the flu 5 days ago.

I have work to do and thankfully I can work from home but this is getting OLD. I have no appetite and I'm too skinny. I'm beginning to think preventive vaccines do not work.

Just having a pity party here. I don't even feel like washing my hair.

No one wanted anything in their stomach. Yesterday was the first day without having to clean up puke. Today they are all back to their annoying selves so tomorrow back to school.

Even wh came home early yesterday with bad sore throat, went to bed and didnt get up until it was time to go back to bed.

Keeping my fingers crossed I dodged a bullet lol

That sucks so hard. I've managed to dodge the bullets so far by staying updated with the vaccinations (I'm a senior) and carrying a good-quality N95 mask in every bag I own. I wear them wherever air is shared, no exceptions outside of my HEPA-filtered office at university. Doctor's offices are a hot zone I think. Hope you get better soon.

There is a particularly nasty virus going around that isn't COVID and it's not the flu. One of my vendors has had it and he was sidelined for a week and said he felt awful. Sounds like that is what you have.

Catwoman, thank you. The headache is bad but the aches in my bones - especially my legs, are worse. And I'm so cold. Just can't get warm. Hate like heck to have to go back to urgent care. Took my last antibiotic today. I wonder how long this new dose of hell - lasts?

edited to acknowledge your vendor's lasted a week. A week!! Oh no.

First of all, Jeanie, I am so sorry you’re dealing with this.

Second, did they test you for RSV? We’ve had a big increase in RSV in my area, and we’ve had 2 patients with it at my job. If I typically associated with kids but the over 65 people, especially with comorbidities that affect the immune response, are struggling with it.

Again, I’m really sorry.

I agree could be RSV, or you were tested for influenza too soon.
If you are finished w/ antibiotics and still sick though you need a repeat chest xray. Especially given your situation.
I did get influenza about 10 yrs ago, because of job change that happened during mandatory vax time I managed to not get it and ended up w/ it and ended up w/ pneumonia, I felt like death, and after first round of abx I went back to my Dr, and she wanted to admit me to the hospital. She gave me some super strong antibiotics, and inhaler, and steroids, and cough meds.
Pneumonia can settle and get bad, so if you are still feeling lousy, I would be concerned it is not gone.
Get a pulse ox if you don't have one and check your oxygen levels. Make sure your fingers are warm, and if the sats are less than 90 you need to get to the ER immediately.

I guess I have survived.

Three weeks ago today I got sick. Two days later I was diagnosed with pneumonia in what's left of my right lung. I was really sick. Strong antibiotics and a steroid shot helped some but I had such a difficult time breathing. The nebulizer saved my life. I was freezing cold all the time. had horrible headaches. Tests showed no Covid or Flu. Just plain old pneumonia. After a week I felt better and could breathe easier. Then the pneumonia moved to my left (healthy) lung. So yet another week of hard to breathe and headaches and fever and freezing. I had a hard time eating and had zero appetite and lost 8 more pounds. My weight is down anyway since the June '21 cancer surgery but I was starting to put on a little weight. Now I start all over again trying to eat. I thought at one point I had contacted the flu since my bones were aching so much but tests showed no flu. I was tested for flu and covid three times. Coughing made me sore all over.

Meanwhile my daughter has been struggling with injuries from her car accident and I was totally useless to help her. She is starting to improve finally. My sister stepped up and went with her for some minor surgery and helped her.

My constant bed companions have been my two little sweet dogs - who stick with me through thick and thin. They helped to keep me warm when I was shivering with fever. I'm upright today. Hoping I will feel up to celebrating Thanksgiving. We have three invitations to dinner but I'm not sure I want to be around a lot of people right now. My sister has said she will deliver dinner to us here at home. That sounds like the best option. I'm looking forward to Christmas, hoping both of us will feel much better. I will miss cooking Thanksgiving dinner. But my sister is a great cook.

On the bright side, my daughter was able to get a brand new car. She was so upset that her car was totaled as she only had two payments left on it and it was still such a nice vehicle. The insurance company, as usual, ripped her off by only agreeing to give her a cash out check which was $6000 less than the market value of her totaled car. But she managed and bought a beautiful 2023 SUV with 4 miles on it and got a good deal with a big down payment and a small interest rate.

I'm so sorry you're still not well. It's great that your sister will cook for you though.

How is your daughter feeling other thsn being screwed by insurance. So typical isn't it. Geez we all pay so much for it they should at least be decent when an accident happens!

Glad you are starting to feel better. I got covid four weeks ago and am still coughing some and am struggling with fatigue. I am so far behind with everything it's driving me crazy.

That's great your DD was able to get a nice new vehicle despite a low payout from the insurance company.

Thank you all for the well wishes. I am feeling much better but still a little concerned about my lungs. Both seem 'sore' but there are no pains now. I am trying to reach the lung doc about getting a scope to check them out. No return call back yet but I'm guessing it's because this is a holiday week. I am trying to eat because I have been so weak and feel like I could easily fall over in a faint. My sister took me out yesterday to the grocery store and I was encouraged to see so many people wearing masks as I was. A 7th grader at my daughter's school passed away from RSV so there is that sadness.

I have never in my life seen so many obits here of younger people, 30's and 40's - in the obits. Mainly from cardiac issues. I think time will let us know that it's all aftermaths of Covid. I find myself being distrustful of 'tests' as I feel like I possibly did have Covid because of all the symptoms I've had. Makes me wonder just how accurate the testing is. Xrays clearly showed pneumonia in both lungs though - so who knows. Daughter and I have decided to hire one of the local cleaning services to do a deep clean of our home. Neither of us have felt like cleaning.

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

In reference to the surge in young people dying from cardiac related issues, there's a new documentary out called Died Suddenly that explains a lot.

Thanks, I will find that documentary. A friend lost her husband this week after him getting 'suddenly sick' and put in the hospital. All total of 5 days and then he's gone. Dead at age 51. Word is it was breathing issues that caused cardiac issues. No prior health issues. Maybe after some time, I can speak to her. Right now she's surrounded by family and I understand she's having a really hard time. His funeral is tomorrow. I may try to go to the graveside part as it's only 2 miles away from me. I did send flowers.

I really haven't been well even one day since thanksgiving. Had to go to urgent care and was told I had pneumonia AGAIN and I wrote about that. Tests showed no covid or flu. Wasn't tested for RSV at that time. Got shot and meds and improved for a few days. Got sick again last week. Coughing nearly every breath and so tired and weak. Couldn't eat. Went to my lung specialist a week ago Friday. He seems not THAT concerned, sent me downstairs to the lab for an x-ray ad said "yes, you have pneumonia. Gave me one RX of antibiotics. After getting home, I googled the med and it was mainly for a dang ear infection and description said nothing about pneumonia. I took all the meds but they really didn't help. I was down for the count, couldn't sleep for coughing. No fever or headaches but both lungs hurt and I could not get any sleep because of the coughing. FINALLY this past Saturday morning my daughter said enough ....and took me to the emergency room. I was admitted to the hospital because I really was having breathing issues and was severely dehydrated. I was assigned an EXCELLENT hospital doctor. She is fantastic. She immediately admitted me and put me in a private hospital room, tested me for covid,. RSV and the flu - all negative. I had a LUNG infection that has went into the bronchial tubes so breathing was obstructed by the swelling. She pumped me full of meds Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I was finally released tonight. I can breathe! And the cough is almost gone. They also scoped my esophagus and nothing scary there (returning cancer was a concern) and she said I'd been sick so long that I had a very big problem about that and put me on Vitamin B12 and B10 in addition to sever good drugs to bring home.. I came home with 9 (nine!) RX and I will take them all. I feel SO much better. The only big issue I had was my blood veins kept blowing out the IV needles as veins were collapsing. I had 9 different IV's since Saturday morning so my arms and hands are black and blue - but they managed to keep the meds going. Some were oral. I have been able to eat and I'm drinking lots of water and other fluids. So I've lived through it but it's been a rough time since Thanksgiving. And of course I still have work to do from home but I've had to pass some assignments off and co-workers have been so helpful. When I am 100 percent I WILL engage a new lung specialists as current one is now saying since it's been 16 months since the cancer and lung lobe removal, HE does not see a need to do a catscan to check me occasionally as he stated he'd do in the beginning. I think anyone who has had cancer WANTS to be checked to make sure it's not coming back! At least every 6-9 months to set my mind at ease. He even acted like I was over-reacting when I asked him about being checked. His office is also the people who had me mixed up with another patient so I've lost trust in him. Originally they had me set up for an April cat-scan to heck on me. That's off the table.

I was treated very well at the hospital and I am so thankful I've found this new doctor. Right now she is a 'hospital doctor" but plans to go out into private practice soon. She will let me know. She will be my new primary care physician. She is very compassionate AND knowledgeable. She seemed to know much more about my condition than my 'specialist' lung doc showed any interest in. In just three days, as busy as she was, she checked on me 2-3 times a day.

So I'm back. I didn't get a lot of sleep in the hospital because they were checking me out constantly during the night. Saturday when I was taken to ER, three people came in by ambulance. Two of those people died on Sunday - both females in their early 50's - so many people dying. Causes of death for these two women were 'developed heart conditions due to pneumonia. I was told this and how lucky I am as they also kept a close eye on my heart while there. I am very fortunate.
