DS2. 35. Wife is 4 months pregnant. Chest pains for 2 days, ignored until day 2. Troponin levels as high as 10, balloon catherization done, Widowmaker artery 100% blocked. Another artery also 100% blocked but they left it alone...
He's overweight, eats high fat, barbecue, drinks too much, imo, doesn't exercise. But all his vitals signs have been just a little elevated, doctors haven't even put him on statins or bp medication.
Very, very scared right now.
He lives 8 hours away, I'm leaving early tomorrow to put eyes on him.

I really hope the stress isn't too much for his wife, given her recent pregnancy issues.

Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for him.

My H had a widowmaker at 40, and it was 100%, and his troponins were in the 100's.
So they will get him on an ace and a beta blocker, and a statin but are probably working toward getting is blood thinners going for those new stents.
He also had to have a second stent inside the original one 2 years later. He is now 54, and he has had zero issues since.

For my H it was not actual cardiac disease initially it was what is called a plaque eruption that was caused from lifting something too heavy, and stress. He had this during what brings us here, but not mentioned in this forum.

Hmmm. That's interesting. So the existing plaque broke off from somewhere and lodged in that vessel.

I guess my question is, why all the plaque in the first place? I have virtually none and I'm 68 and not a vegan, very much a carnivore and like my sweets.

Well there are a number of factors, including lifestyle, family history, testosterone levels, and dumb luck.
Hopefully this will be a wake up call for him. My H had a super strong family history of bad heart disease on both sides. Diabetes on both sides too.

Because of that he keeps his weight steady, he does not really exercise, but is very active and participates in activities like duck hunting that require cardio workouts during it. He gets labs done on a regular basis to make sure he isn't developing diabetes, because he loves his sweets.

I'm just an ordinary lurker (with cause), but on this topic I have life experience. I was a bit older when I started having left arm and shoulder pain. Cath test revealed 100% block on the LAD artery (the "widowmaker") and three others with 97+% block. Had no option but to have a CABG (Bypass surgery) at the ripe old age of 43.

Please see if surgery is an option and also have a carotid artery echo and lower extremity vein scan. If he is overweight and sedentary, chances are high that he is at a stroke risk and maybe DVT (deep vein thrombosis) as well.

A few months post surgery I was able to resume an active life with walking, rowing and cycling (both road and spin). Also, a full lifestyle change is in order given his age. Please read about Plant based diets are devoid of high unsaturated fats and low on sodium (look up Forks over Knives and the regimens from Dr. Esselstyn from the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Dean Ornish). These will set him up over the many years ahead of him. These days I'm usually active with Cross training and lifting due to an ankle cartilage injury, but hope to be active again.

Lastly, to lose excess pounds, I'm following the 16:9 Intermittent fasting plan. One of the prolific posters here (WWTL, I think) also spoke about it -- albeit in a different context.

Lastly, stress management... wife is HUGE on this, but I'm a bit behind on this front. Hope to start with guided meditation soon, looking for a nice place but harder since a lot of places closed over COVID.

Let's hope that he will change his way of life, at the level of meds, food, and exercise. And for this he will need lots of family support.

WH had a heart scare ~6 months ago - got 2 stents plus he has another artery that's not looking great but they decided not to stent that one. He doesn't seem a 'classical' heart patient - 1m83, 70 kg (so tall and slim), doesn't really exercise but walks everywhere. But eats lots of meat, especially pork. Well that's gone now.......

Lisa Marie Presley died today from cardiac arrest. Age 54. TOO many people dying young. The NFL football player was very fortunate to recover from his cardiac arrest. I lost a good friend over the weekend, a fellow attorney who passed in his sleep from cardiac arrest at age 59.

Thanks for asking. It's a waiting game. He feels fine but has developed a cough which I'm assured is not CHF. It's likely his asthma. But since that's not been an issue for YEARS, he's not being treated for it...his go to Albuterol, speeds up heart rates. Not sure if he should use it.
His EKG is still abnormal. He'll see the interventionist in 3 weeks to consider rototootering the other 100# blocked vessel, or manage it medically.
He says he's walking and eating rights and not drinking. Fingers crossed that that is true! This mom is still fretting...

Lionne, could his cough be a post-operative consequence to the drying oxygen he was receiving on the operating table? I seem to recall some doctor telling us not to be surprised about a cough after a sedation procedure. Tush would know more... Hope he continues his self-care. In our area so many people have been dealing with a respiratory cough/sore throat. Thinking of you!
