So I've worn glasses for distance since grade 7 or 8. A long time. I've had a few pairs, usually the same prescription just different frames and features. Once I got transitions. Once I got both a regular and a sunglass prescription.

My eyes have always been very sensitive to bright light. So a sunglass or transition had been important.

Also important to note I HATE wearing glasses and only wear them to drive.

Well a couple of weeks ago I kept my glasses on when I left the car to go into a store. At the cashier I took them off and clipped them to my shirt in order to read the debit machine. Well from the store to the car they disappeared. I mean GONE. The only thing I could think was that as I passed the storm drain and took off my keys (on a lanyard around my neck) they somehow went down the drain.

I contacted the city who told me to contact the owner of the parking lot who kindly told me he would not call in anyone to open the top nor let me do it myself.

Owell.

So I called my optometrist to ask for another pair, same frames etc. They refused because it's been 2 years since my last appointment and I NEED to legally have an exam before new glasses. Grrr.

My eyes haven't changed in 20 years.

So I drove home with just a pair of sunglasses and located one of my old pairs. Of course the frames of the old lens was shot so I ended up super gluing them to a new frame of cheap sunglasses. Man it looks ridiculous but it works.

In I go for my eye appointment expecting my doc to be upset and he tells me that the lens I am using, old lens from like 3 pairs of glasses ago are working just fine and in fact my sight has improved to the point that I am borderline even needing them.

What?!?

How is thst even possible.

Of course I'm also borderline needing reading glasses. Like old age can piss right off. I was so happy being able to see up close really well and now to remove a sliver I need a magnifying glass. Sucks. I can still read well enough that he said maybe in the next ten years I'll need something like a bifocal but for now he will just tweak my distance prescription to make it super crisp. Yay.

My old lens are scratched so anything will make it better.

So I then get to pick frames and in talking to the person assisting me discover that transitions don't help while your in the car because your windshield has a uv filter on it. Well that explains why transitions don't help while I'm driving. So I opted for a regular pair with clip on sunglasses.

Now if they can only come up with glasses to dull out other people's high beams or tone down the new LED headlights that light up more than a bloody lighthouse at sea, I'd be laughing.

So has anyone here had their distance sight improve to not needing glasses? Man that would be so sweet!

You can use yellow tinted lenses for night driving, I have for several years now. Not that they solve everything but they do help me.

You can use yellow tinted lenses for night driving,

My optometrist mentioned that.

But is it a yellow tint on your prescription lens or a separate pair altogether or just yellow tinted sunglasses you put on over your prescription?

I got drops to dilate my pupils and was given those huge sunglasses to wear over my prescription for the drive home. Man they wouldn't stay on and the pressure on my nose was horrible. I ended up sticking the arms into my hair above my ears just to keep them on comfortably.

I can barely stand to wear glasses to begin with. Habibg to out on another pair over my glasses will drove me batty. If I can get clip ons that would work. The sun glass clip on that comes with my frames is magnetic so if I can find some with a yellow tint that would work.

I don't mind driving at night but the new headlights are ridiculous. And then you have people who just won't shut off their high beams even after I've flashed mine a few times. That's when I wish I had my brothers jeep with the line of super spot lights along the top lol.

Yes, my eyesight did improve at one time. The job I had at the time was less stressful on my eyes and my sight improved. Also, they put a prism in one lens to correct my vision, which helped. I have astigmatism and near-sightedness and can't see much without my glasses.

I've heard that contacts can change your vision for the better because they can help with the shape of your lens.

I've had bifocals since my late 30's or early 40's. But sometimes my arms aren't long enough to read something. LOL. I will take a picture so I can blow it up to read.

I'll second the yellow glasses. A friend gave me an extra pair they had and they've made the difference when I've had to drive at night, especially in the rain.

You usually see those yellow glasses in the Sold On TV sections of stores. I've seen them at Giant Tiger, Walmart, etc. I've seen them in both clip-ons and individual pairs.

I've got a pair for night driving. Well, in my case, very early morning driving when I go to work. The first morning I had them on was a snowy day and I slid right through the first intersection, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the glasses but I was so rattled I took them off and have never put them on again!

IDK how old you are Dragn, but my "prescription" keeps getting less and less each time I go to eye dr. I asked him if my eyes were actually getting better, and he said no. Turns out I have early cataracts, and the cataracts are causing my prescription to be weaker. I think it may be the cataracts keeping the lens from changing much, but can't say for sure.

I've found the yellow tinted glasses marked for night driving in a full glasses but not yet in a clip on. I'll keep searching.

I was cleared of cataracts and glaucoma which is great.

I can see pretty far without glasses. The glasses makes everything more crisp. And for reading I can still read fine print at the acceptable distance. But it's now blurry when I bring anything closet, like when you are getting a sliver out. Just weird how our eyes change.

We were just talking about vision at work yesterday. My asst is in her young 40’s and wears glasses for driving. Her last test they were slightly improved.

My optometrist told me a few years ago, when I questioned that mine had not gotten worse, so no change in the numbers….that is completely normal as we age…and yes the next phase is cataracts. Ugh. I’m in my late 50’s.

I started wearing glasses in 1985 after a car accident (didn’t see the traffic light, much less that it was red). I was 22. My prescription changed slightly the next year (the Dr. thought I was so used to squinting to see at the first test, I likely continued to do that while being tested). My prescription stayed the same for the next 36 years. Over the last 3 years my eyes have gotten progressively better at seeing at distance. My prescription has gone from -2.25 to -1.75 over that span. Of note, I retired 3 years ago and no longer spend 8-9 hours a day staring at a computer screen. The Dr. said that, along with natural changes due to aging are likely contributing to my eyesight "getting better".

That's the good thing about ordering from Chinese company's. They'll make you anything you ask for. I had to figure out my pupillary distance since that isn't usually on the prescription, but I've ordered a few sets past the two years since my eyesight has pretty much stabilized.

I have a copy of my prescription. What numbers are those?

I have for one eye:

Sphere -0.75
Cyl. -1.00
Axis. 089

I don't know what numbers means what.

The sphere number is the same number that you would match with when getting glasses like at the dollar store.

Mine are -4.75 and -5.5. I know there is a big E there, but I can't really see it.

I don't have numbers for the other things, but they are on my script paper.
