This is the fourth Father’s Day without my dad. I miss him so much but I do love using this day to really reflect on how lucky I was to have him as my father. He was truly the best man I have ever known.

Hugs to all who are missing their dads today.

That would be me. My Dad passed on my 16th birthday and I still miss him very much. I was a genuine Daddy's girl.

It's my 12th without mine, too. I miss him every day.

Oh, thanks so much for this.

It is been 16 years since I lost my father. And like it has already been said, he was the greatest man I knew. Not perfect…but simply the best. ❤️❤️❤️

My late father was what they call a 'hard case.' If you called him on Father's Day, you were interrupting the golf tournament he was glued to on TV. If you wished him a Happy Father's Day, he came back with 'just another Hallmark card holiday they decided to invent!" (He was born in 1924, so he had a point.) But it got to where I didn't dare try to 'honor him' on that particular day!

Many years later, I came to realize he most likely felt he had not done the best job as a father, so that might have been what was motivating his annual irritability. (A dear older friend actually suggested that - I couldn't see it at the time.) My father had been a major drinker, to the point where my mother gave up and divorced him - after 24 years! Nobody could get through to him until he hit bottom and the ER doctors talked to him. We think it was a miracle he survived, and never drank again. But he never really got his act together, either....)

Fathers are SO important!

I just saw this post today (Tuesday post Father's Day).

12th Father's Day without my dad too - geez, just the few of us who posted lost their dad the same time as me.

He was a wonderful man - very missed by myself and all who knew him.

This was my first Father's Day without my dad. He passed in December, 5 days after his and mom's 66th wedding anniversary. We waited until this past Saturday to have his memorial service to coincide with what would've been his 90th birthday (June 16th).

The grief is still so raw. I know it won't always be this way, but it sure hurts like hell right now. Everyone loved him, and many happy memories were shared on Saturday.

Taps did me in.

I have never smoked. The occasional cigar, but even that was maybe 2-3 a year. Yet this Fathers Day I got my dad’s old pipe-collection and fired one up. Sat alone on the patio and remembered my dad who passed away a decade ago.
About ten minutes into the smoke my two sons came out and sat with me, as well as my wife. They were surprised to see me smoking, but all commented about how the smell reminded them of my dad. We sat there for maybe an hour sharing stories about him.
I admit I guess I did the bare minimum to keep the flame alive in the pipe and probably 90% was simply puffed away. Hate smoking, love the memories.

Bigger, my grandfather was a smoker, and I remember how the smell lingered in his favorite chair for years after he passed away. As a little kid, I used to curl up in it because it smelled like him.

Yesterday was my second Father's Day without my dad. I still miss him every day.
