Ok this is bothering me. Any bread item (bread, Buns, rolls) left out on the counter molds. Pisses me off since I buy bread in bulk because the kids go through so much and summer meals are usually sandwiches and cut up veggies.

Does anyone keep bread in the fridge or freezer?

Our St Bernard never tool food off thr counter. Never. He was trained not to. The pig would have for sure if she could reach.

Yes growing up the bread was always in the fridge.
I don't really buy bread anymore, unless we have something that requires it like burger/brats. But with just the 2 of us, and trying to eat healthier, my H has started to learn to go w/o it too.
I haven't ate bread for about a decade.

No bread isn't an option. I'm not going to force a big change like that on kids who enjoy their pb and jam. It's hard enough finding things they will eat and with two kids severely underweight it just doesn't seem like a good idea.

We have enough fresh fruits and veggies every day, get plenty of exercise, drink water.

Big D just discovered he likes fish so we've had more of that, moving away from chicken.

Limited pasta, potatoes and rice.

And when it's so hot I don't cook.

Wh uses Wraps instead of bread or Buns but the kids don't like them.

The fridge upstairs is usually filled so I'll just have to keep the extra bread in the downstairs fridge.

Here bread goes into freezer after purchase. Counter or fridge to thaw, then use.

Some brands are damper after thaw, some not. Whole wheat seems to remain dryer in general than white sandwich, but again brands differ.

I like toasted for sandwiches other than pb&j.

The street in front of our building was in rough shape when we moved here in 1998. Yesterday I woke to a smell of burning asphalt ... a contractor was scraping(?) all the old asphalt off the street, and we will soon have a nice, smooth street for 2 blocks. I'm so excited!

I buy a delicious bread, but I'm the only one who eats it, since plainsong feels sick if she eats wheat. I much prefer to keep it out of the fridge, but I don't eat it fast enough to beat the mold. When I was growing up bread went into a breadbox, not the fridge. Of course, my brother and I forced my om to buy Wonder Bread, which doesn't support much life at all, so it didn't get moldy. But good bread from the bakery didn't get moldy, either, now that I think about it. I wonder if my parents ate the good bread fast enough to beat the microorganisms....

Pretty much this. New bread goes into freezer until current loaf is gone but not refrigerated after. Wife grew up in the gulf coast of FL and likes to refrigerate flour, bread etc, but we really don't have room for it generally. I grew up in a family of six so life span of a loaf of bread was a day or two so mold was never an issue. We also kept 50 pounds of flour in a trashcan under the table due to the amount of baking dad did. We have kept bread in the microwave, but it tends to get left down after use.

It’s not humid where I live, so bread survives a while on the counter, but since I live alone, it takes a while to get through a loaf. I keep it in the freezer and just toast it before I eat it. Would probably thaw before lunch if you made a sandwich with it frozen. Easy enough to test.

Dragn…

I have a bread maker. It’s a bit old, but I remember using it once or twice and it works very well. You could just get some dough ready before you go to bed at night, and pop it in the bread maker, and by morning you would have a beautiful Loaf of homemade bread.

I can’t remember who said that they wished that bread came in half loaves. It does where I live! But I have to admit that I always chuckle when I walk by it, because that would last about one hour in my house.

I have to get really creative with cooking again because my husband has pretty much refused anything but a ham sandwich or mashed potatoes here lately. But of course in the hospital he a met regular food and seem to enjoy it. So off to the grocery I go tomorrow, and begin to be domesticated again! Yuck!

I actually have a bread maker. I've never used it. I'm pretty sure my mother and all my ancestors would freak on me if they saw me making bread that way. Lol

Once school starts the amount of bread being consumed will drop. Right now it's an easy grazing item. No wonder we are out of peanut butter and Nutella when all they do is snack between meals. With school means NO grazing through the day.

I want to try those muffin tin eggs and see if the kids take to them. They all eat scrambled eggs (ok maybe no D. He's super picky).

I haven't even finished a cup of coffee....

We use a rubbermaid single loaf bread box - keep the bread tied closed in the bag in the box and it does pretty well. Second/extra loaf goes into the freezer. I have discovered, though, that the frozen loaf has to be thawed on the counter before going into the box, else the damp makes it mold *really* fast.

Jeanie my grocery store do sell 1/2 loaves. In fact thats what I buy for my H when he wants sammiches.

Drgn I was in no way recommending you go without bread with 4 kids you need bread and buckets of peanut butter and jelly. That was a snack time staple in our house.

We also had issues with bread not going bad when we had our Dane. She would get it off the top of the fridge. Where we keep it. In the microwave is also a good spot not as much airflow and supposed to prevent molding like the old fashioned bread boxes.

Sorry Tush. Been on edge and hating the world for a month now and the thought of no bread and the resulting mayhem it woukd cause freaked me out.

Home made peanut butter is a total hit. Gotta do Nutella now.

One problem is my kids are frigging lazy assess and don't close the bread bags. One store has switched to cardboard things instead of plastic (which puts me into a whole other rant) and since the cardboard ones rip so easy it doesn't matter if the kids put it on the bags or not.

I have never owned a dog that counter surfed. I don't even think the the Dane did.

I lose the plastic tabs all the time. Most the time I am lazy and just close the bread by twisting the bag and setting the bread on top of the extra bag.

It works, but then I also keep bread in the fridge so me and DD dont just casually snack on it!

At least the plastic tabs don't rip like the cardboard does. And I use thr plastic ones for scrubbing in tiny areas, like around the sink.

I've been slacking in my dinner duties. More often than not I've just said it's a fend for. Surprisingly the kids all chose relatively good stuff, lots of veggies. They can ALL cook too so that's a bonus! Wh has been fending for himself since March lol

I am looking forward to Cooler weather and more comfort type meals. Miss things like potatoes, meatloaf, chili.
